Alright readers, here's a question for you. Let's say you are only allowed to drink one whiskey for the rest of your life. Not one type of whiskey, not one distillery, not even one line of whiskeys but one single expression, such as Elijah Craig Barrel Proof, Yamazki 18 or Lagavulin 16 year old. You can pick any label in current release to be your one whiskey, but it won't be any easier to get than it is now, so if you pick George T. Stagg or Pappy 20, you risk having some dry years (and let's assume you will not have access to any bottles you may have bunkered).
What's the one bottle you would pick?
Aberlour 10yr (43% abv would be preferred, but I think it's only available in 40% abv now).
ReplyDeleteGlendronach 12
ReplyDeleteCask Strength OBSK from Four Roses.
ReplyDeleteFour Roses Single Barrel
ReplyDeleteFour Roses Single Barrel. I think I can count on always being able to find it.
ReplyDeleteFour Roses Small Batch Limitef
ReplyDeleteOld Weller Antique
ReplyDeleteGlenfiddich 18 year old.
ReplyDeleteHighland Park 18yo
ReplyDeleteportwood
Four Roses Single Barrel if limited to whiskey (with an "E")
ReplyDeleteportwood
speaking for myself, this is an unfair question. the only whiskies that have been available where I am for say, 15 years, are jack daniels (black) and jim beam (white). and I cannot think of another that has not gone through long periods of simply unavailable.

ReplyDeleteJeeeeeeez, this is tough!
Cost being no object, I'd pick William Larue Weller, although I imagine it may diminish in pizazz in a few years.
Four Roses Single Barrel

ReplyDeleteI would go with Wild Turkey 101. It's been consistently good, well priced, and is always available.
Springbank 15.
ReplyDeleteOld Weller Antique
ReplyDeleteFour Roses Small Batch (not the limited edition)
ReplyDeleteDamn, hard question...
ReplyDeleteEither four roses single or benromach 10, or nikka 12...
Time to mix it up a bit...Elijah Craig 12 SB.
ReplyDeleteIf it's labeled Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and it's distilled and bottled by Four Roses, Im drinking it for the rest of my life. If I have to be more specific, I'll take the Four Roses yellow label.
ReplyDeletePappy Van Winkle 15 at MSRP. Hopefully, it will be easier to actually find it in the upcoming years.
ReplyDeleteStranahan's Colorado Whiskey or Cedar Ridge Iowa Bourbon.
ReplyDeleteArdbeg Uigeadail
ReplyDeleteWT Honey Turkey or Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey.
ReplyDeleteHowever, if they aren't available then I would opt for Four Roses Single Barrel or Small Batch.
Elijah Craig 12 year (and keep it that way)
ReplyDeleteThat'd be super shitty. Pass. I'd buy other spirits instead.
ReplyDeleteRedbreast 12 CS
ReplyDeleteIf a new bottle magically appeared when the previous one ran dry it would be the Midleton Barry Crockett Legacy. But if I have to find it each time then it certainly won't be around forever. So put me down as a another vote for Redbreast 12 CS.
ReplyDeleteFour Roses Single Barrel
ReplyDeleteClynelish 14 anyone?
ReplyDeleteJohn J Bowman Single Barrel
ReplyDeleteConsidering availability, I'd have to say cask strength FRSB. I'll take whatever recipe I can get my hands on when running low!
ReplyDeleteEither the stock FR Single Barrel (OBSV-recipe) or a choice OBSK-recipe Rutledge picked barrel.
ReplyDeleteOld Forester Sig 100
ReplyDeleteBlanton's SFTB. Available often enough from somewhere in the UK.
ReplyDeleteVery Old Barton BIB
ReplyDeleteSpringbank 10
ReplyDeleteassuming availability and quality remains static, I'd go with the EHT single barrel.
ReplyDeleteWoodford Reserve is always available. Thank goodness.
ReplyDeleteGun pointed at my head-Old Weller Antique.
ReplyDeleteOogy or Benromach 10.
ReplyDeleteNeed something that's available, high quality for a low price, and transcends the region it's from.
Hand's down four roses single barrel
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking OGD 114. Readily available..
ReplyDeleteMine would have to be The Glenlivet Archive 21 year old. Man, I love that stuff! I always try to have a bottle on hand, already.
ReplyDeleteIf price became an issue down the road, I'm sure Blanton's would step up and do the job in admirable fashion.
Lagavulin 12
ReplyDeleteFour Roses Single Barrel for me.
ReplyDeleteFour Roses Single Barrel (Standard release/proof/recipe). Chosen because it's available, reasonably priced, consistently good, and offers some welcomed variation in flavor profile because it's single barrel.
ReplyDeleteTalisker 10y.
ReplyDeleteFour Roses Single Barrel. Not original, but if it was Booker's, I'd be hammered all the time.

ReplyDeleteKilchoman Machir Bay -- each year's release is unique, but it's been consistently great
ReplyDeleteglendronach 15 revival
ReplyDeleteHenry McKenna 10yr BIB
ReplyDeleteBuffalo Trace. Would like William Larue Weller but can't find it.
ReplyDeleteArdbeg Corryvreckan.
ReplyDeleteDickel #12. I'm a simple man with simple tastes.
ReplyDeleteFour Roses Single Barrel - but given the popularity here, I might have to switch to High West Campfire to be sure to secure a source
ReplyDeleteOK I've been giving this question additional thought. I'm changing my vote to the Redbreast 12 CS...but I may try to sneak in the Clynelish.
ReplyDeleteAnother vote for Ardbeg Corryvreckan.
ReplyDeleteTalisker 18
ReplyDeleteBalvenie Tun 1401 Batch 3. Gallons of it.
ReplyDeleteOld Taylor "6" Yellow Label Bourbon... $12 a liter when you can find it, but tastes great.

ReplyDeleteLaphroaig 10 year Cask Strength. It's slipped in quality since the first batches, but it's still completely distinctive and immediately identifiable: a peaty, nutty, phenolic bruiser that's an incredible value in today's market ($53+tax around here) and widely available. Even at $70, it's a steal.
ReplyDeleteNo Mac 18 fans out there? Guess I'd have to go with Lag 16 for the long haul.
ReplyDeleteRobert says->As the only one I've really enjoyed for over thirty years, Glenmorangie Original (10). I enjoy others (ECBP, WTRB, Lag 12/16, Corry, etc.) more HTH, but Glenmorangie is more of a daily sipper and really hasn't changed much over time. Just edged WT101.
