Reader Poll: Pick One Whiskey for Life
Alright readers, here's a question for you. Let's say you are only allowed to drink one whiskey for the rest of your life. Not one type of whiskey, not one distillery, not even one line of whiskeys but one single expression, such as Elijah Craig Barrel Proof, Yamazki 18 or Lagavulin 16 year old. You can pick any label in current release to be your one whiskey, but it won't be any easier to get than it is now, so if you pick George T. Stagg or Pappy 20, you risk having some dry years (and let's assume you will not have access to any bottles you may have bunkered).
What's the one bottle you would pick?

speaking for myself, this is an unfair question. the only whiskies that have been available where I am for say, 15 years, are jack daniels (black) and jim beam (white). and I cannot think of another that has not gone through long periods of simply unavailable.

If it's labeled Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and it's distilled and bottled by Four Roses, Im drinking it for the rest of my life. If I have to be more specific, I'll take the Four Roses yellow label.
Pappy Van Winkle 15 at MSRP. Hopefully, it will be easier to actually find it in the upcoming years.

However, if they aren't available then I would opt for Four Roses Single Barrel or Small Batch.

That'd be super shitty. Pass. I'd buy other spirits instead.

If a new bottle magically appeared when the previous one ran dry it would be the Midleton Barry Crockett Legacy. But if I have to find it each time then it certainly won't be around forever. So put me down as a another vote for Redbreast 12 CS.

Considering availability, I'd have to say cask strength FRSB. I'll take whatever recipe I can get my hands on when running low!

Mine would have to be The Glenlivet Archive 21 year old. Man, I love that stuff! I always try to have a bottle on hand, already.
If price became an issue down the road, I'm sure Blanton's would step up and do the job in admirable fashion.

Four Roses Single Barrel for me.
Four Roses Single Barrel (Standard release/proof/recipe). Chosen because it's available, reasonably priced, consistently good, and offers some welcomed variation in flavor profile because it's single barrel.

OK I've been giving this question additional thought. I'm changing my vote to the Redbreast 12 CS...but I may try to sneak in the Clynelish.

Balvenie Tun 1401 Batch 3. Gallons of it.
Old Taylor "6" Yellow Label Bourbon... $12 a liter when you can find it, but tastes great.
Laphroaig 10 year Cask Strength. It's slipped in quality since the first batches, but it's still completely distinctive and immediately identifiable: a peaty, nutty, phenolic bruiser that's an incredible value in today's market ($53+tax around here) and widely available. Even at $70, it's a steal.
No Mac 18 fans out there? Guess I'd have to go with Lag 16 for the long haul.
Robert says->As the only one I've really enjoyed for over thirty years, Glenmorangie Original (10). I enjoy others (ECBP, WTRB, Lag 12/16, Corry, etc.) more HTH, but Glenmorangie is more of a daily sipper and really hasn't changed much over time. Just edged WT101.
