New Whiskey Labels: Scotch and Garlic
This week's most interesting new labels from the federal TTB database:
Independent Scotch bottler That Boutique-y Whisky Company may be most known for their comic book inspired labels. Their whiskeys have not previously been available in the U.S., but this week the cleared labels for two blends (#1 and #2), a blended malt and single malts from Alt A Bhainne, Glentauchers, Glenburgie and Tormore. All labels were for 375 ml bottles and are NAS.
Glenrothes cleared a label for a 1995 vintage whiskey.
How will we know when the flavored whiskey thing has jumped the shark? Hmm, maybe when people start making garlic flavored whiskey.
Note: The fact that a label appears on the TTB database does not necessarily mean it will be produced. In addition, some details on the label, such as proof, can change in the final product.

hhhmmm..... first we have the dog breath whiskey of the other day, now we have garlic whiskey! i think you're right, that the shark and the poodle have both been jumped.
oh, and 50 bucks for a .375 bottle of beam is the biggest ripoff i've heard of in at least a day.
Garlic-flavored whiskey? As some chefs have learned: just because two edible substances can be combined and served to customers does not mean it is a good idea to combine them and serve them. See also: "Vodka with popular flavors added that just don't work out", a list that is still growing. Whiskey makers testing the flavoring/finishing arena should take a lesson from both before they bottle and sell. Save a lot of money and bad feelings I betcha not to mention bad mouths. Unless, of course, they are going for the gag gift market.
Amen Harry. Plus, if you really wanted garlic flavored whiskey, I can't imagine it would be that hard to make at home.
Seriously. Are they going for the "I only drink whisk(e)y with pasta and pizza" crowd?
Oh man... I just noticed the label comes with a Garlic Whiskey Meat Marinade recipe!
Let's just tell people right up front that this product is so crappy they should NOT be drinking this stuff neat.
Oh the pain...
ISO: Old Kentucky Onion to complete my BBQ aperitif collection.
Garlic whiskey . . . I am ashamed to admit it, but I'm curious enough to take some Evan Williams black label and infuse some garlic, just to see!
Garlic booze! Perhaps someone drinking whiskey needs the garlic to improve their breath or fool the police? Interesting that they put a marinade recipe right on the back label. I guess the contents are not meant to be consumed by drinking- its apparently being marketed as "cooking whiskey". Perhaps, by including the marinade they are trying to be helpful (here's a good way to get rid of this bottle once at home). I have to ask: why not just market it as bio-fuel or bug repellant?
